2021 LHSF Common Scholarship Application
The $1,000 5A Rent-a-Space Scholarship was awarded to Anthony Nunez. Anthony will be attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and will be studying environmental science. He was a member of the Surf team, Interact Club and Honor Society, and also worked part time.
The $1,000 Maureen Setsuko Ariyoshi Memorial Scholarhip was awarded to Victoria Vera. She was accepted to several colleges and plans on a career in Hospitality & Tourism. Victoria was a member of the Soccer team, AOHT And Rotary Interact. She volunteered for sevceral community service events and worked part time.
Ariana Pacleb was chosen to receive the $1,000 Vaughn & Luly Baker Scholarship. Arian was accepted to several mainland colleges and will be majoring in nursing. She was a member of HOSA, the Korean and Japanese Clubs, and Tennis. Ariana also volunteered in several community service programs and events.
Elizabeth Ankney was the recipient of the $1,000 Bank of Hawaii Scholarship. She will be attending Grand Canyon University this fall and plans on studying business and marketing. Elizabeth participated on the Cheer team, DECA and AOHT, and was active in her church, which included a mission trip to Indonesia.
The $1,000 Boss Frog's Scholarship was awarded to Kulia Phillips. Kulia will be attending BYU-Hawaii this fall and will be studying psychology. She was a member of the Hawaiiana, Book, and Aloha Clubs. Kulia also volunteered for several community service events and worked part time.
Three $1,000 Class of 2001 Scholarships were awrded to Taai Galoia, Shaelia Pascua & Hookipa Sakalia.
Taai has applied to several mainland colleges and plans to study Criminal Justice. He was very active in Football and Bbasketball, volunteered for community service events and worked part time.
Shaelia will be attending Hawaii Pacific University this fall and will be studying electrical engineering. She was a member of the Softball team and worked part time.
Hookipa will be attending Montana Western University this fall and will be studying criminal justice. Hookipa was a member of the Football team and participated in several community service events.
Kiana Tuttle was awarded the $500 Bonnie Ann Fijal Memorial Scholarship. Kiana will be attending the University of Illinois-Chicago and will study law. She worked at several part time jobs, volunteer work and internships.
Caitlin Raquel Lizada Baclay was the recipient for the $1,000 Ebrahaim Albert Gabbay, M.D., Memorial Scholarship. Caitlin was accepted to over a dozen universities and plans on a career in dentistry. She was a member of HOSA, Student Government and Band. Caitlin also participated in several community service events and worked part time.

Sean Freitas was awarded the $2,000 Kihajiro J Hotta Memorial Scholarship. He will be attending Wyoming Tech this fall and will pursue automotive technology. Sean was a member of the Boy's Volleyball and Canoe teams. Sean also served at several community service events and worked part time.
The $15,000 renewable, Shigeru & Toyoko Ichiki Scholarship was awarded to Kokoro Yamazaki. She will attend UH Manoa to study medicine. Kokoro was a member of the Tennis team, HOSA and the band. She participated in several community service events and worked part time. Receiving renewals were: Challys Pascual ('20), Stacia Eng ('19) & Ryan Agbayani ('18)
Evan Koyama ithe recipient of the $1,000 Ka'anapali Land Mangement Scholarship. He will be attending the Oregon Institute of Technology and will pursue mechanical engineering. Evan participated with the Marching, Pep and Concert bands and worked part time.
Patricia Morales was awarded the $1,000 Sammy Kadotani Service Award. She will be attending Pacific Lutheran University this fall and plans on studying Psychology. Patricia was a member of AOHT, Student Government and several campus clubs. Patricia volunteered in several community service events and worked part time in the family restaurant.
The $1,000 Blaze Kalilikane Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Nalani Kirkman. She will be attending Menlo college in the fall and will study psychology and kinesiology. Nalani was a four year wrestler and worked part time.
Cassia Arnold was awarded the $1,000 Brian Kelly Memorial Scholarship. She will be attending Azusa Pacific University as a violin performance major. Cassia was a volunteer at the Maui Animal Farm and for the Lahainaluna High School Foundation’s Grant Committee. Cassia was active in her church and worked part time.
The $1,000 Andrew Kutsunai Future Teacher Scholarship was awarded to Ashley Agamine. She will be attending Pacific Lutheran University this fall and plans to major in computer science. She played on the Girl's Varsity Basketball team and was a member of the Rotary Interact Club and Best Buddies.

Kalalealea was accepted to several mainland universities and will be majoring in Management & Leadership.She was a member of the Swim team, AOHT and Student Council. Kalaleala served on several community service events and worked part time.
Sosefina will be attending the University of Oregon and will study film production and cinema studies. She has been active with MAPA, Theater Theater Maui and worked part time.

Cael Yasutake was awarded the $5,000 renewable, Makana Aloha Foundation Scholarship. He will be attending Columbia University and will study biomedical engineering. Cael was a member of the Wrestling team, Robotics Club and National Honor Society. He volunteered for several community service events. Receiving renewals were: Rory Delany ('20), Hannah Brock ('19), & Eva Olson ('18).
The five, $1,000 Maui County Federal Credit Union Scholarships were awarded to (L to R): Abigail Akamine, Manuel Castro, Liam Chadli, Dawson Nolasco & Avrilyn Quimangan.
Abigail will be attending Ohio Northern University this fall, and studying at their Raabe School of Pharmacy. She was a member of the Lady Lunas Basketball team, HOSA and the Rotary Interact Club. Abigail participated in the tutor program, Best Buddies and several community service events.
Manuel will be attending St Martin’s University this fall and will be studying engineering. Hel was active in the marching band and auto technology. Manuel participated in several community service events and worked part time.
Liam will be attending Grand Canyon University and will major in justice studies to prepare for a career in law enforcement. He was active in Lunas Baseball, both as a player and as a volunteer in youth teams. Liam worked part time.
Dawson will be attending Scottsdale Community College this fall and will be studying business and finance. Dawson was a member of the Wrestling team and volunteered as a youth wrestling coach. He also participated in other community service events and worked part time.
Avrilyne Quimangan will be attending UH-Maui this fall and will pursue a degree in Hospitality & Tourism. Avrilyne volunteered for several community service events.
Laieikawai Tancayo received the $1,000 Maui Kapalua Charities Scholarship. She will be attending UH Hilo and will pursue a veterinary degree. Laieikawai was a member of HOSA, and the paddling and wrestling teams. She also participated in several community service events and worked part time.
Lance Abut was awarded the $1,000 Michael N. Nakano Scholarship. Lance has been accepted to ten universities and plans to major in business administration. He was involved with student government, the Kokua Krew and DECA. Lance was very active in church and community service projects.
The $1,500 Charley Pride Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Akira Foreman. She will be attending UH Maui this fall and plans on a career as a nurse. Akira was a member of HOSA, NHS and band. She participated in several community service projects and worked part time.
The three $1,000 Red Phoenix Scholarships were awarded to Samuel Kahaialii, Malia Pitzer and Jorden Beam
Sam has not chosen a school at this time.
Malia will be attending UH Maui this fall and will study Business Management and Administration. She participated in Soccer and Volleybal and was a member of the Kokua Krew and Chess Club.

Jumar Dela Cruz was awarded the $1,500 renewable, Betty & Roy Sakamoto Scholarship. Jumar will be attending UH Maui this fall and will be studying Business Administration. Hewas active in student government, Kokua Krew and DECA. Jumar also participated in community service events and worked part time.
Kahealani Garcia has been awarded the $1,000 Alfredo "Fred" Sarian Memorial Scholarship. She will attend UH Maui and will be studying agriculture. Kahea was a member of the soccer and tennis teams, and participated in HOSA, Best Buddies an Future Farmers. Kahealani served in several community service programs and worked part time.
Alexa Acosta was awarded the $1000, renewable, Shelton ohana Scholarship. She will be attending UC Irvine this fall and plans on studying business administration. Alexa was active in AOHT, was a student representative in the SCC and a member of the National Honors Society and Rotary’s Interact Club. Receiving renerewals were: Rory Delany ('20), Briana Bandy ('19), & Nicole Slusser ('18)
The $2,500 Steven R Strong, M.D. Memorial was awarded to Abigail Akamine. She will be attending Ohio Northern University this fall, and studying at their Raabe School of Pharmacy. Kendall Beam was awarded the $1,000 H & K Takenaga Legacy Scholarship. He has been accepted to several universities and will be studying computer science. Kendall was a member of the swim team and the morning broadcast team. He was very active at his church and worked part time.
Ashley Akamine was awarded the $2,500 Eugene Takenaga Memorial Scholarship. She will be attending Pacific Lutheran University this fall and plans to major in computer science. Ashley played on the girl's varsity basketball team, and was a member of the Rotary Interact Club and Best Buddies.
Erika Ramos Lagunas was awarded the $1,000 Territorial Savings Bank-Lahaina Branch Scholarship

The Dr. James Kumagai ('52) and Andrew Kutsunai Teacher Scholaraship was created in 2005 in order to provided funding for continuing education costs for the teachers of Lahainaluna.

John is currently a Kumu Kaiapuni (Hawaiian Immersion Teacher) He has been accepted to Kahuawaiola: Ho'ona'auao 'Oiwi 'Olelo me ka Mo'omeheu Hawai'i.
Teva is teaching Hawaiian Immersion, along with Pacific Literature and Hawaiian Language classes . He has been accepted into the UH Manoa's Institute of teacher's Education and is also a PhD student.
